Prevalence of hemobartonellosis in domestic cats of Ahvaz city

Abstract
Hemobartonellosis is a disease in cats with symptoms of anemia. A cat infected with this bacterium is often lethargic and its appetite decreases. Symptoms like anemia, pale gums, fever, and sometimes enlarged spleen can be seen. Anemia can be mild in some cases, very severe, and cause the death of the animal. This research aims to investigate the prevalence of hemobartonellosis in domestic cats. It was done in the city of Ahvaz. Methodology: study and review of cases of cats infected with hemobartonellosis during the years 2016 to 2020 in Ahvaz city on 78 cat collars, including 49 males and 29 females were, done. examples during these years in the Clinical Pathology Laboratory and Parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine University shahid Chamran of Ahvaz. First, half a milliliter of blood from the cephalic vein of 78 domestic cats in Ahvaz city was taken, then each sample was transferred on separate slides and stained using Giemsa dye. Finally, the prepared slides were checked by a light microscope for Hemobartonella contamination. the results showed that Only 4 out of 78 cats were infected(5.13 percent)which included 3 male collars and 1 female collar. In addition, 4 infected cases were related to the domestic Mokotah breed, and the Persian breed was not infected (<0.05).p). in terms of full age Infected samples were over 2 years old (<0.05).p). According to the results current study, Age and breed can be effective factors in the occurrence of this disease in domestic cats.
